Cross-disciplinary Integration

Medical Humanities

As a community partner of the HKU LKS Faculty of Medicine, AFTEC co-orgnises the credit-bearing Medical Humanities Programme, brining the arts into the heart of medical education.

Through theatre, movement, and music, this credit-bearing programme invites medical students to move beyond clinical thinking and explore the human side of medicine as part of the formal curriculum.

By engaging with the arts, students reflect on empathy, identity, and connection, fostering a deeper understanding of the body, mind, and patient experience. The creative process acts as a mirror, uncovering the often-unspoken dimensions of care, healing, and what it means to be human.

By participated in the interactive scene work and roleplay in groups, I learnt how the choice of words and body gestures could affect how people feel about you and facilitate communication.

The acting workshop really helped me understand how we should react when dealing with patients, and how to communicate with patients and their family members.

Engaging activities that stimulate creativity and bonding, with a cheerful atmosphere led by the teacher. I thoroughly enjoyed being able to express myself through physical body language.

I enjoyed the group work session as we need to interpret the dcript and depict a body sculpture, I can focus more on how to utilise body details to convey emotions and thoughts.
