Young Theatre Makers 2025

Young Theatre Makers is a bilingual drama programme designed for secondary school students to discover the art of storytelling through playscripts and performance.

By blending arts education with critical thinking, the programme encourages students to explore themes that resonate with their own lives—growing up, identity, and the world around them.

At the heart of the programme is a curated collection of 14 original plays written by playwrights from Hong Kong and other cities across Asia and Europe. These scripts, available in both English and Chinese, are written specifically for young people and spark thoughtful dialogue and creativity. Through discussions, rehearsals, and performances, students discover how theatre helps us make sense of the world—and ourselves.

Testimonial

This performance provided me with a unique learning experience. The classes not only enhanced my acting skills but also fostered creative thinking and problem-solving abilities. We discussed with our tutor about how to present the play, including dialogue and staging, addressing challenges through collaboration and discussion with peers, applying independent thinking, and exploring the possibilities of the performance.

Student

The paired discussion greatly benefit our students. After observing others’ performances and recognising their own shortcomings, they were motivated to improve. The session also broadened their perspectives on theatre, showing them that the same play can be interpreted in diverse ways. Through this programme, I witnessed the students’ growth and a new side of them.
